Marilyn Pearlie Varner Thorne, age 70 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life Wednesday afternoon, May, 17, 2017 at her home, surrounded by her loving family and under the care of West Virginia Caring.
She was born Tuesday, February 11, 1947 at Elkins, WV a daughter of the late Claude Edwin and Arreta Belle Warner Varner. On November 10, 1967 she was married to Paul James "Jimmie" Thorne, Jr., who preceded her in death May 5, 2014. Surviving are one son, Paul James "Jamie" Thorne, III and wife Crystal of Belington; one sister, Jeannie Pickford Simmons of Elkins; two grandchildren, Zowie Rose Thorne, and Alexis Nicole Downs; one nephew, Arling Randolph "Randy" Simmons of Elkins; one niece, Barbara Kay Shapiro and husband Melvin of Baltimore, MD; and three great nieces, Isabella Rae Shapiro, Morgan Layne Shapiro, and Kari Lynn Simmons.
Preceding her in death is one son, Michael Lee Thorne; and one brother, David Edwin Varner.
Marilyn attended the schools of Randolph County, and had worked as a Nurse's Aide at Nella's Nursing Home for over thirty years from which she retired. She enjoyed playing Bingo, loved her nieces and nephews, and her dog "Zoe"
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 PM, Saturday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home, Sunday, May 21, 2017 at 1 PM. Verl O. Simmons will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, WV.
